I truly believe hi and null sec should be the place to do missions. Not lowsec, except for residents of the systems.
I think the revalorisation of lowsec should happen with a vast agression mechanics revamp, making non red piracy (pirates who keep their SS above -5) less interesting, and anti-piracy more interesting.
Non red pirates break the game in my opinion. They can't be engaged by anti-pirates, but they can engage whoever they want... They only have advantages over real red pirates, and that's too easy to keep one's SS above -5, compared to the benefits it gives.
I think the first idea would be to create a kill right trade right or even a kill right market. No more riskless ganking of industrials, a non red pirate will live with the constant fear of being caught by some random anti-PK guy that bought a killright of him, and brought a ship the non red pirate wouldn't engage, but won't fear either since anti-pirate don't engage non red...
Hell, I'd even be for a modification of kill rights. Let them be even if the engaged one fought back. Engaging someone you shouldn't would finally have a real meaning. And pirates will all go red anyway, since they'll be free to engage to anyone they killed in the past, making the hassle to keep the SS above -5 not worth it any more.
That would lead to a more bipolar low-sec, with red pirates on one side, and "white knights" (anti-pirates) on the other side. And it will make factional more attractive, as a way to have easily found pvp (not the case with anti-piracy) but while keeping access to hi sec. I really think it would improve low sec.
Right now, there is almost no choice for anti-pirates : you HAVE to bait. Or non red-pirates (and they are a LOT easier to find than red ones) will not engage, and you won't be able to shoot them. That's just lame on both sides, I HATES fighting no red pirates, since it always means hours of wainting for them to engage a bait, sometimes they don't, sometimes they do and every small gang overkill them and they cry in local that it isn't fair to have a gang against their poor solo battlecruiser (but it was fair for them to engage a 2 month cruiser bait with a 4 years old BC... nevermind).
Getting rid of those half-pirates would mean every single anti-pirate gang will go in all-out combat against red pirates, without having to waste time baiting, and end up overkilling.
On the pirate side it will mean, well, you'll have to be red anyway, or it real be really awful to deal with traded killrights from every single person you killed, meaning everyone can have bought a killright and engage you even if you're not red. So, almost all pirates will become red, but they won't have to face that lame baiting tactic of us anti-pirates anymore, we'll just hunt them (or get hunted by them !).
I am always pushing the no scaning of missions as part of low secs low pop problem. And that comes from the Carebear mission side. But I have to say this is probly one of the best post I have read were pirates are conserned from there side of things. I can realy get behind this one. Great post. Is it a rock? Point a Lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship? Point a Lazer at it and profit. I dont realy see any differnces here. |
